Tim Lamberton is one of the founders of Aussie Transplant Mates and prior to his heart attack at age 49 was a business manager enduring a great deal of stress.
His heart attack occurred during an outrigger canoe race off the coast of Bowen Qld, and spent a week in a coma thereafter. His recovery was quick and he went back to canoeing six months later. His heart deteriorated over the following ten years and was implanted with a Left Ventricular Assistance Device (LVAD) in 2010. After 18 months with the LVAD, the unit caused haemolysis and an urgent transplant was sought. Tim was very lucky and received a heart in 2011 which is considered a perfect match without any rejection and has been performing wonderfully well.
Tim’s aims within Aussie Transplant Mates is to provide support for those who are waiting for transplant, their care givers, donor families and anyone who needs the motivation to stay strong through this difficult journey.
